Insults

Today, for reasons that will go unmentioned, I had a bit of an argument with a Moroccan “tourist”. (I use the term very loosely.) We were speaking in English, and what was funny was at the end, she said, “Shut the f*ck up!” Of course, I replied in Arabic, “Ko-ed!” (F*ck off!) Then she flew into a rant about how I thought I was so special because I knew a little Arabic. I thought to myself, “This woman really is insane.” Here she is showing off her English, she insults me, I insult her back in her own language, and she’s accusing ME of showing off?

I think I’m more sensitive about it because I seem to get that same, “You’re nothing special because you speak Arabic” attitude from Moroccans from time to time, and I don’t know where it comes from. I never claimed to be fluent, I don’t talk down to people, and I always welcome corrections/suggestions.

Oh well. Bitches are everywhere, I guess.

MAY PEACE BE UPON YOUR SOULS, HEARTS, MINDS, AND BODIES…AMEN…

Where did the respect go? vanished into thin air?!?!?
What lead her to say this bad word in the first place!
And why did you answer back!

I wish now that I just ignored her, especially when a Moroccan female friend of mine reminded me that my adversary was obviously not a lady - no respectable Moroccan woman would have screeched like a she-donkey in public.

I don’t know, I guess small altercations between females are not all THAT uncommon…. but I would have been STUNNED if some woman had told me to “shut the ANYTHING up !” With that kind of a shocker, it’s just not always possible to take the high road…

I am so surprised about the local reaction to your Arabic speaking! I think it’s totally cool that you speak it! Although I remember so many times Simo saying to me “oh, you thing you’re better than everyone now because you can blah blah blah”. Maybe that’s a Moroccan thing that you are not supposed to think you’re better than anyone. And apparently how that happens is a secret Moroccan mystery - speaking Arabic by a non-Moroccan obviously qualifies for the naughty superiority complex.
