Morocco Triumphs

24 May

Morocco 1

USA 0

And it wasn’t even the first string Moroccan team! Sigh. I think the US is going to get crushed by Italy and the Czechs.

This is such a widespread rumor, that it even reached us way down here in the Todra Gorge!

Bad Days

23 May

Inspired by Cat in Rabat’s week-long “bad Morocco day,” I have my own suffering to relate.

First, though, I want to mention that I have never had any problem with cars in Morocco, as poor Cat has – they seem to be magnetically drawn to her. I can think of a couple of reasons for this discrepancy, though.

1. Cat is petite, at least compared to yours truly, and they probably figure the damage from hitting her would be negligible. If they hit me, however, it would be comparable to running into a moose, or something.

2. The boyfriend prior to my dear husband was a race car driver. (NASCAR, to be exact) I am very used to cars zooming by within inches, in fact, I often stick a foot out to kick them as they pass. That’s quite a shock for the Moroccan “drivers,” let me tell you.

Travels

21 May

Last week, I took a brief holiday to the sea, Essaouira, where I stayed in the lovely Riad Nakhla. I was poisoned at Chez Sam, the “famous” restaurant at the port, which is now somewhat infamous in my mind. Other than that, the weather was wonderful, I rode a little boat out in the bay, and generally relaxed and enjoyed wandering around doing nothing.

I meant to post while I was travelling, but the internet connections are just infuriating. Now that I’m back in the Gorge, I can check my email here, but with such a slow connection, it’s a daunting prospect to attempt anything else. I may give up posting very much until I return to the States in June – after all, I have lots of things to write about, and a T3 connection at the office!
