IT Growth – Where?

Morocco plans to triple IT growth in 2006-2012

Morocco plans to triple telecom and information technology (IT) growth, with an 18% annual increase in the period 2006-2012, through a programme of state support, subsidies and training, Jamal Benhamou, chief executive of Morocco’s Federation for Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Offshoring said in an interview to Reuters on Thursday (November 2nd). He considers the plan ambitious, but realistic. The Progress Contract for 2006-2012 envisages state subsidies and incentives worth 1.5 billion dirhams by 2008. According to Benhamou, the sector’s turnover is expected to expand to 60 billion dirhams in 2012 from a projected 30 billion dirhams this year. (Reuters)”

Oh really? Maybe they should stop teaching Pascal in the rural “technical schools” then. It’s so irritating, because Morocco has a gazillion 20-somethings who are super-intelligent and skilled in all sorts of IT stuff – networks, web design, administrative support – but via nepotism etc… all of the jobs where they could be making a difference are filled by those who just want their paycheck and pension.

“IT Growth” is evolution not intelligent design

What government must do here is unleash people by cut bureaucrat madness and carefully write arsenal of laws (electronic copyright, patents, e-commerce) to make valid environment for start-up to mid-size corporates to grow up

Schools sucks, but that did not prevent “gazillion 20-somethings who are super-intelligent and skilled” to show up

I know – many of them are self-taught. Agree with your ideas about cutting through the bureaucracy – I thought I knew what red tape was until I tried to get a permit in Morocco!
