Simply Moroccan!

I love this site – it’s a fun and easy to follow concept.

I’m hoping that he’ll have quizzes later on – like posting a conversation, and the first person to correctly translate it (er, a non-native speaker, that is) will get a little gif to put on their blog. I know, I’m silly, but I want a green star!

The only problem I have is the transliteration sometimes throws me – but that’s probably because he’s using the correct form, while I learned rather unorthodox spelling. For example, I would write “haddema” and he uses “khdema.” I’ll pick it up, though!

CORRECTION : SimplyMoroccan is a woman! [smacks head] Sorry about that!

    I am really happy to know that you like my blog. Your idea about the quizzes is very interesting (I am getting hints for new ideas from comments I got these past two days)..Did you check my website: http://www.speakmoroccan.com? It has a forum, and that’s where -we- intend to put quizzes and more interactive things…once the “audience” grows a little bigger.
    I love also the green star thingie, but I don’t really know how can that be done..
    For the transliteration, it’s the simplest one we could get for our website, and thought I’d have it on my website too. Someone asked in a comment if it’s possible to have the conversations written in the Arabic alphabet, to make it easier for him to read, and I am going to do that inshallah.
    “haddema”? That is definitely a hâ’ and not a khâ’ to me! If you used “j” instead, I’d guess that you have a Spanish background, but h doesn’t look accurate to me at all.

    Now for the conversations, I’d like to know how you find them: Not too hard? Nor too simple?

    PS: SimplyMoroccan isn’t a he ;) .

    Oh gosh, so sorry – I thought I had checked out your profile and saw that you were a guy, eee. Smahalia lalla.

    I can read Arabic, too, so I’d be glad to see that on your blog – can you still have the transliteration too? Maybe make it so that the Arabic version is before the break, and then you’d click to read the whole post, and the transliteration and English translation would show? That would really give us a chance to test ourselves! For me, the conversations are just right – it’s a mix of about 75% stuff I know, 25% I don’t, which keeps me learning.

    I think I saw haddema in the Peace Corps darija manual, which works mainly by using their own style of transliteration, and it just stuck with me!

    Now, I am going to make a green star. :)

    It’s okay, I didn’t mention my gender anywhere. :)

    As for the Arabic script, it will definitely be a plus, not a replacement for the transliteration. I’ll just need to find a little time to do that.

    For the way posts are shown, I am not sure blogger offers that. Any hints?

    I have seen the transliteration adopted by the peace corps, and found it a bit strange. Mine is meant to be simple, hope that it’s not complicated.

    Your transliteration isn’t complicated at all, it’s easy because we can ask you to clarify! :) Can’t do that with the Peace Corps folks.
