L’ftour
What I would be eating in Morocco:
- dates
- mint tea
- harira
- kefta tagine
- bread made by Hamou’s sister Zinba (flat bread with spices on the inside, sometimes called “Berber pizza”)
- hard boiled eggs
- kiri cheese or la vache qui rit
What I’m eating tonight: (Hamou’s at work, so it’s just me)
- dates
- mortadella sausage (halal, of course)
- kiri cheese
- lentil soup with paneer (yes, mixing cultures)
- moroccan khobz (I’m making it)
- baklava
- peach nectar
- Mt. Dew
I know it seems like a lot, but I’m not making very big batches. Probably a cup of soup, a few chunks of sausage, a few dates, etc…
Hope everyone is able to be with their families for this wonderful Ramadan season - whether you fast or not! ![]()

bon appetit. You forgot the buttermilk, that is almost a rule if you eat dates around here.

I don’t get the buttermilk (yuck) and dates (yum) connection? Is it some digestion disaster preventative or sweet/not sweet combo?

DV - I kept seeing the buttermilk (leben, I think they called it?) but I scrupulously avoided it.
Kelly - Good idea, I’ll post a couple of recipes for harira and khobz.

What do you think about harira. I like it very much and I can cook it very well .My mother taught me how. The secret of a good harira is enough tomatoes and herb!

It seems that the group of gnawa does not have a very varied repertory!

Rather say ‘baqlawa’.

hey remember that song “I Think I’m Turning Japanese”?? Just insert ‘” Arabische” in there and it’s YOU !
This year is the first year i didn’t cook at least a little something special (harira, b’stilla) for Ramadan. Too busy breastfeeding. Next year!
Good thing you didn’t forget the very-Ramadanish Mountain Dew…
